The SoCal 3388 cam is one of the most popular Duramax cams on the market and is often the go-to choice for many customers. It offers excellent street manners, works great for towing, and is friendly for daily driven builds.

Alternate Fire Option (3388AF) Crankshaft Longevity Upgrade

SoCal Diesel pioneered the Alternative Firing Order camshaft option for the Duramax platform to reduce crankshaft stress.

The OEM firing order ends with cylinder 3 and begins with cylinders 1 and 2 — creating a 3–1–2 hit to the crankshaft. Duramax cranks have a known failure point behind the first rod throw near the second main journal, which is where this stress concentrates.

By moving cylinders 3, 1, and 2 away from each other, the alternate firing order spreads the load and helps the crank survive more abuse — especially in higher horsepower applications.

To run alternate fire, a few injector pins must be swapped so the ECM commands the correct cylinders. Wiring diagrams and instructions are included with every purchase.
